What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simply Syndication) is a standard web format for syndicating news and other website content.

RSS allows users to subscribe to a website (and even specific channels within a website; e.g. sport, movies, business) to receive new and updated content, without being required to revisit the website. Almost all major newspaper websites provide subscription via RSS.

The advantage of RSS is that it allows users to determine the type of content they receive from a website, and when the content is received.

There are many free RSS Readers available including RSS Readers that integrate with Microsoft Outlook. Installation is typically straightforward and RSS subscriptions can be discontinued at any stage.

Recommended RSS Readers are below:

Online RSS Readers: My Yahoo!, Bloglines and NewsGatorOnline

RSS Reader Applications: NewsGator, FeedDemon and Attensa
